App Store video specs and requirements
Apple's stores for Mac, iPhone and iPad apps. App previews are the short videos shown before the screenshots.
What it is
App previews are short videos that sit in front of your screenshots on the App Store. On iPhone and iPad they autoplay muted in search results and on the product page, so for many people the preview is their first look at your app.
You upload them in App Store Connect, separately for each device size. Mac, iPhone and iPad each need their own resolution.
What it expects from a video
- Previews must be between 15 and 30 seconds long. App Store Connect rejects anything shorter or longer.
- The file can be up to 500 MB, at 30 frames per second or less.
- Apple asks that previews show footage captured from the app itself. Avoid showing people, hands or device frames around the screen.
- iPhone and iPad previews are portrait video at the exact sizes Apple lists for each device. Recordcake centres your recording and fills the rest with your background colour, so nothing is cropped.

Tips for product demos
- Recordcake warns you before export if the trimmed clip is outside 15 to 30 seconds. Trim first, then export.
- Previews autoplay muted, so any narration should also appear as on-screen text.
- You can pick the poster frame in App Store Connect. Make sure there is a clear, readable moment in your clip.
